This theatre of the culture war is global, but in Scotland it poses a unique and particular problem within the political discourse of the independence movement. As an internal dialectic of radical feminism, the opposing factions of the debate — the conversation in toto — constitutes, albeit fractured, a discourse or a Weltanschauung of its own; the worldview of modern radical feminism. This conversation, however, is happening largely within one constituent element of the Scottish independence movement (which is in itself a discrete Weltanschauung).
Ruth Davidson to Boil her Heid on Bake Off
But if Scottish independence is to be derailed, than the Tories and truthless Ruth are the best the British establishment have. So can we be surprised to see her on the small screen entertaining small minds with her buns? Absolutely not, and it is not the first time. Channel 4 is putting Ruth on a charity episode of Great British Bake Off. She was already on the spin-off An Extra Slice last year and previously appeared on the BBC’s Have I Got News for You.
It Turns Out the Gardaí have a Sense of Humour
You can’t beat that sort of carry on with a stick. Now I’m not sure if this newfound sense of humour makes up for all the times they have beaten me with a stick, but it does show that there is something happening between their ears.
Beyoncé said it Loud and Clear at Superbowl 50
It was a powerful statement of black identity; ironically in the middle of Black History Month, and an affirmation of black empowerment. Not getting that was racist. Protesting it is racist. What Beyoncé Knowles did was unmistakably racial, but certainly not racist. Why does it always have to be about white people?
Going Native for Christmas
Looking over the window Nativities of Dublin it was interesting to see what was variable within these acceptable norms and what was not. One of the most beautiful – in my opinion – was a gorgeous little pottery Nativity of caricatured Native North Americans. Indeed the birth of God in humanity was and is for all humanity, but it was amusing to see that this infant retained his northern European hair colour.
Philosophy and Technology
Except in the event of a worldwide electronics apocalypse, this cyber revolution, together with all the changes it has brought and will bring about, is here to stay. While we may know the odd person who has resisted the urge to begin using Facebook or Twitter (are these already passé?), everyone – at least in the developed world – benefits from the progress we all share, and we all suffer its consequences.
The Absurd ‘Good Guy with a Gun’ Argument
Invariably these pubescent fantasies include some slim dolly bird in distress, who upon the completion of the good guy’s mission wraps herself around him and they both ride out into the sunset. Sadly this spank bank material is never about the girl.
Why Do We Fear Islam So Much?
As a cultural, historical, and religious counterbalance to European civilization we have projected onto Islam – quite literally – our worse fears on this other; we have made it our very image of evil and all things dark and fearful.
