Of these two heads of government Ms Sturgeon is the only one elected to her office, the one with the mandate, and the one representing the will of Scotland.
People subject to state power whose conditions of life dictate that they are not functioning in a manner that serves the imperative of power – earning and paying taxes – are, by default, the enemies of the state.
Life has never been so good for those with wealth and power in London. By operating an economic and social system that has successfully created a cash conveyor belt to their own bank accounts (often offshore ‘for tax purposes’), the British élite thrives on a diet of champagne while ordinary working people go without the basics to feed their children.
Offshore accounts in exotic locations – and not so exotic tax havens like Ireland – have been a winning formula in the efforts of the magnificently wealthy global élite to accumulate vast troves of money and stay ahead of the taxman.
This is the sort of paper money that is measured in tonnage rather than dollars which has accrued to itself the power to take flight to tax havens around the globe in the twinkling of an eye; the type of wealth that buys the influence to dictate to states, and to direct their national and international policy – all to the ends of profit irrespective of the needs of human beings.
For the most part the real power-brokers of today remain behind the scenes, or in the White House hidden in plain sight. Such people are the custodians of real power, and are the people responsible for the longer term strategic ambitions of the state.
