Sooner or later we are going to have to accept this as a cold hard reality of dealing with Britain and stop acting so surprised every time the same thing happens. Nothing the London government says can be trusted – not now, not ever. Only when our own government and media accept this fact and begin to act accordingly can we hope to get what we want from these people. Its promises are worthless and the longer we sit on our hands hoping that the next one might just maybe be kept the more damage we are allowing to be inflicted on our country, our people, and our interests.
When I searched for Mr Browne online – or “Ally Browne” – I found a young man who has devoted much of his time over the past number of years to launching personal attacks on Nicola Sturgeon; at times sharing memes depicting her as excrement, astroturfing the BBC website in an effort to create a link between the SNP and the banned far-right and pro-union group Scottish Dawn, and promoting the Islamophobic hate website Bare Naked Islam on Twitter.
Why the unionist media persists in doing this is becoming increasingly hard to fathom. This is the age of the internet, social media, and instantaneous news. Fewer people every year rely on the mainstream for their news – as a result of shifting age demographics and by a growing lack of trust in how it sources and presents the news. The moment Hugh and Allen’s faces appeared on our screens social media recognised them and outed them, further damaging the credibility of STV and the BBC.
However much the BBC protests that it strives “to provide fair and impartial news coverage,” the "British Broadcasting Corporation" speaks for the British head of state and her government; in short, it is the de facto state broadcaster of the United Kingdom. As such it represents the unionist agenda in a political context wherein various national independence movements are being silenced by its overwhelming dominance of the media. Of course we have the right to complain, but ultimately our complaints must be falling on deaf ears.
What’s so fascinating about all of this is that we in Scotland are free to use whatever media is available to us without having to swear allegiance to any network or its political masters. In turning to Russia we are merely assisting in a Russian project that is very much in our own interests, the further weakening of Great Britain. The commissars’ offices in the UK’s newspapers and media outlets know this as well as we do, and this is why they are raging.
When the British media turns its attention to the “nationalists,” nothing can appear worse. Everything the Scottish government – “the SNP government” – has done to make rail travel in Scotland the best performing rail network in the United Kingdom, well that’s a “crisis.” There’s an NHS crisis in Scotland too, an oil crisis, and an employment crisis, and any other flavour of crisis you may care to imagine. Scotland, thanks to the SNP, has become one big crisis.
A shark on the road is what it is. It’s a shark on a road. This is Ockham’s Razor 101. It didn’t happen. Yet it’s easy it grasp, it tickles the imagination, it allows us to be seen to be enraged or be one of the smarty pants who myth busted it. What it is, is bubble gum for the brain. But what we are missing is that this is precisely how the media – the “real” or “mainstream” media – has operated for decades. Now these techniques of mass anaesthesia are being used – thanks to the internet and social media – by people and organisations that have more sinister messages to spread than shark memes.
We can be as gentle, as meek, as fair, and as mild-mannered as we like. We do not have the luxury of mass media to get our point across. We can be civil and well spoken, reasonable, and well behaved. Their cameras and microphone booms will come nowhere near us. No one will hear how nice we are. All the while the airwaves and the news reports and column inches will be jammers with vile BritNat manipulation and half-truths, and we will “lose the argument.”
